Chef Davide’s journey to becoming a celebrated chef in St. Maarten began with a life-changing opportunity in 2000 when he accepted a position as a private chef for a family friend, Mr. Spadaro. Arriving from Sicily, Davide embraced the Caribbean lifestyle and found a second home on the island.

In 2002, he met Scarlet, a charismatic woman from Santo Domingo, and the two quickly formed a deep bond. They married in 2009, and Scarlet became Davide’s unwavering support in both life and business. Together, they dreamed of opening a restaurant that reflected Davide’s Sicilian roots, one that would capture both the flavors and the ambiance of his homeland​
​Their first venture, Sale & Pepe, opened in Simpson Bay and quickly gained popularity for its authentic Italian dishes, although it remained small. Inspired by his memories of waterfront dining in Sicily, Davide envisioned a larger restaurant by the sea—a space that could fully embody the charm and warmth of a Sicilian dining experience.

With Scarlet by his side, Davide continued working toward this vision, believing that together, they could create a lasting legacy on St. Maarten.

The Chef
Chef Davide Zagami, a Sicilian native, was born in Catania—a historic port city nestled at the base of Mt. Etna on Sicily’s eastern coast. Growing up, he was surrounded by the energy and tradition of La Pescheria, Catania’s bustling weekday fish market, where the passion for seafood and culinary artistry thrives. With roots in the heart of Sicily’s seafood culture, Chef Zagami brings this heritage to every plate he creates, blending tradition with fresh, high-quality ingredients for an unforgettable dining experience.

Our Menu
Our menu celebrates the rich flavors of the Caribbean and the Mediterranean, with much of our seafood freshly sourced from the Caribbean Sea. We also offer selections from the Sicilian Sea, such as our prized deep-water shrimp, flash-frozen immediately after being caught to preserve its fresh, oceanic taste. Each dish is crafted to bring out the authentic, vibrant flavors of these regions.​​
